1. BJÖRN AGAIN’S FIRST COMMUNICATION FROM ABBA
   

By 1990, Björn Again had been getting some media attention in Sweden and as a result were invited to appear on a leading national TV program followed by a ten day tour around the country. In the year prior, the main Swedish national paper ‘Expressen’ had featured a full page 3 story on the band. The Swedes were very curious about the fact that an Australian band was impersonating ‘their’ ABBA many years after they had disbanded, Swedish accents at all!

This journey to Sweden was Björn Again’s first ever tour outside Australia, in fact the band never thought they’d ever tour there. So a very excited but apprehensive Björn Again left a sweltering hot Melbourne day in November 1990 to set off on the ‘Selling snow to the Eskimos Tour’ adventure. They arrived in snow covered Gothenburg to see what would happen.

The live 4 song performance on the National TV show ‘Fredagsextra’ (‘Friday Extra’) went well but during the interview - to their surprise - the band was presented with a telegram from ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus. It read:

Wow! A telegram from Björn himself - fantastic stuff. Up until then the band wondered what ABBA thought of the idea but this showed they not only supported it, but had a good sense of humour too.

After being presented with the telegram, which Björn Again’s Björn read out live on TV, manager John Tyrrell was interviewed about how Björn Again started as the Swedes were very curious.

When Björn Again finally met Benny and Björn in Stockholm in 1992, Björn was clearly staggered at how big the ABBA Revival had become - giving BA the credit for initiating it - but kept saying: “Guys - Why don’t you write your own songs???”
